Bowers and Merena’s first auction of the New Year will be an important
Rarities Sale scheduled for Saturday, February 4, 2006 at the Loews Beverly
Hills Hotel Los Angeles. The sale will be conducted in a single session
beginning promptly at 6:00 PM in the Screening Room.
 “We have a
spectacular Rarities Sale planned for Beverly Hills,” stated Bowers and
Merena President Steve Deeds. “More than 600 lots of absolute and
condition rarities will be crossing the auction block at the Loews Beverly
Hills, including several consignments of important U.S. gold coins from the
18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. We have a proof-only 1876 Three-Dollar in PCGS
Proof-65, a rare 1814/3 Capped Head Left Half Eagle certified MS-61 by NGC, and
a key-date 1930-S Indian Eagle graded PCGS MS-64. These three coins represent
only a small percentage of the gold highlights in our upcoming Beverly Hills
Rarities Sale.”
According to Bowers and Merena Director of
Numismatics Jeff Ambio: “We are also delighted to be offering several
important rarities from the U.S. minor and silver-coin series in our February
Beverly Hills sale. Of special importance among these highlights is a
seldom-offered 1857 Flying Eagle in NGC Proof-64, an elusive specimen-striking
of the 1831 Capped Bust Dime that NGC has certified as Proof-63, a key-date
1896-S Barber Quarter in NGC MS-65, and a simply breathtaking 1917-S Revere
Mintmark Walking Liberty Half Dollar that has been certified MS-67 at NGC. The
final coin is currently a pop 1/0 example at both major grading services.”
