I have a coin of the columbian exposition that opens. On one side of the coin it has a picture of what I guess to be columbus and a few other pictures of men with flags in their hand. It also has a date of 1492 with a star on each side of the date. The other side, after doing much research, I believe to be a picture of the "Court of Honor" and the date 1892. Inside is a circular cut-out which I think a quarter sized coin could fit in securely. There is a marking inside that says sterling. This coin is very dark black. There is only slight wear on some of the faces but the dates have no wear.

My father has the 1893 version of this coin. What is neat about it is that someone(maybe a jeweler) has taken the coin and cut it around the edge and put a hinge on it. The coin has a small compartment in the center of it. The coin snaps back together and you can't even tell the coin has been modified. Has anyone seen this done before? Only way we found it was I dropped it and it sprung open to our surprise.

I own a 1893 Columbian. It has a wonderful patina and appears in very good condition. Longitude & latitude lines as well as sail seams are evident. What would its approximated value be today? Thank you.

The exposition spawned many souvenirs including tin boxes, playing cards, medals, etc.

All have some value, but that depends on both the rarity of the item, its condition and collector demand.

I have not seen the Tin Box you mention, and do not have and specific information but if you can send us a photo, we would be happy to see if we can track down something for you.
