ISRAEL - Israelis switch to larger banknotes
Israel-Times.com Gold Euro Dollar Shekel CurrencyAs per Bank of Israel Currency Department annual report the NIS 200 banknote usage has increased up to 18 percent in 2006 versus to 17 percent previously. It is better accepted by the large public as the ATM withdrawals climbed up.
The NIS 100 bill kept its leading position with stable 53 percent, while 50 shekel’s usage continued dropping to 19 percent from 20 beforehand.
The use of the NIS 20 stayed at 10 percent of total notes in circulation.
The Bank of Israel maintains its position to drop the 5-agorot coin due to its cost and introduce a new NIS 2 coin by the end of 2007.
