Why is the gold price falling?

Mumbai: The sharp fall in crude oil prices and a strengthening dollar against euro have pushed down gold prices by Rs 1,015 for 10 grams in the last two weeks.Pure gold has fallen from Rs 13,625 per 10 grams on July 17 to Rs 12,610 per 10 grams on Thursday. Crude oil has plunged from its record high of $147 a barrel earlier this month to $122 a barrel this week. Gold prices nose-dived by Rs 305 for 10 grams to Rs 12,495 on the bullion market in Mumbai on Wednesday on renewed offerings from stockists triggered by fall in the overseas markets.

The 25th Mint Directors Conference was held in South Korea. Some 350 people from 48 nations, including central bank officials and representatives of coin minting machine companies were in attendance.

Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) has introduced legislation to mint commemorative coins in honor of Mother’s Day. The purpose is recognize the important role of women in our community, but also help to fund scientific research into cancer and brittle bone disease. Sorry “fathers”, maybe next year. Perhaps we could have an entire series of commemoratives celebrating ALL of the fake commercial holidays !

Chet Krause of Krause Publications fame has written his autobiography at his sister’s insistence. It was reported that the proceeds from the book, “I’m Chet” will go to the Iola Historical Society in Wisconsin.

The Denver Post had an article on the new Adams Presidential Dollar and how it is going to help highlight National Stroke Awareness Month . I never even knew there was a Stoke awareness Month. Go figure.

An article appeared on Kitco by Howard Ruff, who among other things tries to explain Why Wall Street Hates Gold and Silver. The article is very entertaining but I have a hard time buying into the extreme apocalyptic scenarios. He may very well be right, but God; I think I will just go kill myself right now!

It was reported in the Garden City News that Eugene Parrella, President of Eastern Numismatics, Inc. has sold one of the 17 known 1880 Four-Dollar Gold “Stella” coins to a client for an undisclosed sum in excess of $500,000.

Dealer Bob Bruce of All American Coin & Jewelry of Pensacola, Fla. assisted in the recovery of more than $100,000 in stolen rare coins. The coins and others with a value totaling over $1 million were taken in a December burglary of the home of Dr. Robert C. Talbott of Hilliard, Ohio. Great Job !!!!!!

Marc Dann, a partisan and vocal Ohio politician who rose to prominence as a result of his “outrage” at the ethical lapse and criminal activity surrounding the Tom Noe rare coin investment scandal, quit his post as Ohio Attorney General Wednesday amid a firestorm of criticism about his “affair” and cover-up with a subordinate. Can anyone say karma ?
