Lawsuit Asks Fed for Gold Info

On Dec. 30, the Gold Anti-Trust Action Committee, Inc. (GATA) filed suit against the Federal Reserve in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. The suit seeks a court order for the Federal Reserve to more fully respond to GATA’s Freedom of Information Act requests (which date back to December 2007) to learn information about the Federal Reserve’s involvement with gold swaps from 1990 to date. Stanford Clients to Get Back Gold Coins, Bullion, Judge Rule

Allen Stanford’s gold customers will regain possession of $21.2 million in coins and bullion seized 11 months ago from the company’s Houston headquarters when federal regulators raided the offices on suspicions the financier was running a $7 billion Ponzi scheme. Investors had urged U.S. District Judge David Godbey, who is overseeing the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s fraud lawsuit against Stanford in Dallas, to release their gold as prices for the metal reached an all-time high during 2009.

PCGS alters guarantee

Professional Coin Grading Service’s recent announcement that it will be changing its guarantee may have wide-ranging implications for collectors, especially those who collect high-end world and copper coins. First, PCGS now limits the guarantee on non-U.S. coins to $10,000 per coin, with a limit of $1,000 per coin for Chinese coins.Changes to its guarantee of color for copper coins could have broader implications. PCGS states: “Since environmental factors can create changes in the color of copper beyond our control, we will not be guaranteeing the color of copper coins graded or sold after Jan. 1, 2010.” .
