Swiss Mint issues Swiss National Park – Red deer 2009
Swiss Mint
The red deer is the third motif in the commemorative coin series which Swissmint dedicates to the Swiss National Park. The artist and scientific illustrator Niklaus Heeb from Rodersdorf (Canton of Solothurn) designed the coin. It shows the animal, a typical guest in the National Park, that draws attention to itself in autumn by its loud belling. The bimetallic coin has a face value of 10 Swiss francs and is available with immediate effect. There are two minting qualities to choose from: “uncirculated” and “proof coin” in a presentation case. The red deer also supplements the Swiss currency coins in the 2009 coin set.

Demand notes are notable for being the first federal paper money issued for circulation. The $5 and $20 demand notes depict allegorical figures but bear no portraits.

A particular highlight was the sale of the John W. Adams Collection of Indian peace medals, at which time we had a record 11 different telephone bidders, plus who knows how many Internet bidders, plus a nice gallery of in-person participants. Action was intense from beginning to end.
