Our show really started with the Stacks auction. Just prior to the sale we noticed bidding was not aggressive and there were many unsold lots. Being a consignor, we were very concerned. However, once the actual auction started, bidding on fresh and nice coins (NOT recycled or over priced dealer dreck) really took off. There was a large deal of fresh early copper. We were VERY surprised that early on we saw a true shoot out for the 1813 1C.

British Museum say Treasure Act is having the right effect

THE British Museum have credited the Treasure Act – which ensures treasure hunters are compensated for finds – for the significant increase in reported objects. This year’s Treasure Annual Report, published on November 19, lists a total of 749 precious metal objects reported last year, compared with 665 in 2006. That amounts to a tenfold increase in the numbers of artefacts reported since the Act came into effect in 1996.
