5 Star Generals Commemorative Coin Bill Awaits President’s Signature

On September 28, 2010, H.R. 1177 5-Star Generals Commemorative Coin Act was passed in the Senate. As the bill was previously been passed in the House on May 20, 2010, it now awaits the President’s signature to become law. The bill authorizes a new commemorative coin program to recognize the five U.S. Army 5-Star Generals: George Marshall, Douglas MacArthur, Dwight Eisenhower, Henry Arnold, and Omar Bradley. The release will coincide with the 132nd anniversary of the founding of the United States Army Command and General Staff College.

Weight Put on Coin’s Edge

Though hobbyists still don’t know when sales will start for the 5-ounce silver bullion version of America the Beautiful quarters, the U.S. Mint has released photographic images of how the thin edge of the 3-inch diameter coin will look. The edge will say “.999 Fine Silver 5.0 Ounce” in incuse lettering.Production began the week of Sept. 20, according to the Mint, and 100,000 of each of the five designs will be produced. Sales will occur through the Mint’s network of authorized purchasers as is the case with the Mint’s other bullion coins.

Coin Dating To Time Of Jesus Found On North Shore

Mistaken for a quarter when it was found in 2006, it turned out to be a 2,000-year-old silver coin in the harbor side yard of a north shore family. “A complete mystery, a real mystery,” mused Anita Brewer-Siljeholm, holding the mystery in her hand. She said a Beverly coin dealer verified it is a shekel of Tyre, the same type of coin paid to Judas to betray Jesus. “We don’t collect coins and we’ve had this house 60 years and we’ve never been coin collectors,” explained Brewer-Siljeholm.

James Buchanan $1 Coin Cover

The cover incorporates two 2010 James Buchanan Presidential Dollars from the first day of mintage at the Philadelphia and Denver Mints. The coins are mounted on an illustrated display card with a 44-cent postage stamp. The postmark on the cover is “August 19, 2010, Lancaster, PA”, which coincides with the official circulation release date of the coins. The covers are priced at $15.95 each plus shipping and handling. A product limit has been established at 32,000 covers.
