I would like your expert opinion about a penny that I've been holding on to for sometime. Found this penny among many other wheat's while metal detecting. I must have looked at this penny at least a hundred times under powerful magnification, many angles, under different light trying to clearly identify the "3" at the end of 194?. I do know that it is of the "San Francisco" mintage. The penny got my attention because of the bright gold-like toning and have been reading a lot about the 43-S on bronze planchet. Unfortunately this penny is in poor condition because of a long life in the ground and is quiet pitted along with the green patina front and back.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

We have a 1943 copper/bronze penny from fathers collection. We believe it to be authentic. The coin dealer that submitted it to PCGS believed it to be authentic. PPCGS returned it stating Questionable authenticaty. I just read an artical admitting that this is common practice. I think that they are afraid to commit to it. What do you have to compare it to. It is without question the correct medal. The numbers are perfect. Who is willing to study it?
