Wyoming Error Found in Quarter Proof Set

Wyoming State Quarter Proof ErrorPaul Kmiotek of New York was in for a big surprise when he opened the 2007 state quarter proof set his in-laws gave him on his birthday. The last thing he expected to find was a major minting error.

When he slid the set out of the box, he saw that the lower right corner of the case was jammed partially open by the high flange of a misstruck 2007-S Wyoming state quarter.

At first he didn’t notice the error and tried to snap the case back closed, but the high flange that was cupped upward from obverse forced it to spring back open. He then noticed the “problem” and decided to contact Numismatic News about his find. The report was forwarded to me and I then consulted with a pool of experts to see what they thought.

Fred Weinberg of Encino, Calif., said, “I’d call it a Close Overlapped Double Strike, Cupped, with a Tilted Partial Collar. As a proof states quarter, I’d estimate it at $1,500-$1,800 retail value.” Read Full Story

I found a wyoming quarter that seems to have been stuck on an angle and the upper left side of the reverse side is not visible. Do you have some information about how I can find out how much it is worth.

I have a wyoming quarter, and there is no detail on the cowboy or horse. Are they all this way?

first time i saw a wyoming quarter i thought it was an error because of total lack of detail in the cowboy and horse. but it appears they are all that way. at least all the ones ive come across.

i have one that looks like in some spots when it was being made the machine shaved the metal, but all of the surface has the same texture. also it shines different. the others i have are like stainless steal but this one is like stainless steal with a gold tint. and by the nose & mouth it has like two parallel lines, kind of like deep scratches but again same texture. any others like this or any other info on it?

I just got my 2007 silver proof set with 2 sets of silver quarters and 1 set of the presidential dollars. The set did not contain the dime, nickel, penny, 1/2 dollar and the indian gold dollar in it. Does anyone think this would be considered an error set?

I bought a 2007-S Silver Proof Set, which contains all 14 coins produced for that year. There are marks on the obverse of the penny that appear to be dust on the coin before it was struck. Also, the Kennedy half dollar has marks on the obverse that look like streaks where the coin was wet and they spun it to get it dry. The dime has these marks also. The state quarter set is the one that really has some errors. The Montana quarter has light discoloration on the reverse side near “unum” and near “Country”. The Washington quarter has a line of light discoloration from “unum” to the mountains and from the “W” in Washington to “E”. Idoaho has light discoloration on the falcon. Wyoming has a circular line of discoloration just inside the rim from “G” to “unum” and a lighter discoloration from “W” to “E”. Lastly, Utah has discoloration on both edges of the mountains and trains. If anyone wants photos, let me know, hopefully they will show in the photos.

If an error coin is found in a silver proof set is it more valuable left sealed in that set or should it be removed and graded to be put in it’s own slab?

I have found the same error. However, most of the Wyoming quarters here in Wisconsin DO have all of the missing details. So, hold on to those you have

My 2007 state quarters s proof set came with two montana quarters and no washington. Is this considered an error ? Is there a place I can check on it? Would this make it more collectable?

I received my 2010 silver proof set from the mint this week. I always look them over with a magnifying glass. On the Jefferson nickel obverse I noticed two short, parallel lines struck slanted at about 30 degrees downward to the left over the Monticello window just to the left of the portico. Any suggestions as to what could have caused this and does it affect the coin’s value? Thanks.

i, too was excited the first time I received the Wyo Quarter, and totally bummed when I saw the images of the ‘very plain, unremarkable’ coin…what gives? (I know this is a few ‘minutes’ late, but, hey if you can’t catch up online…!

What happened to the State Parks Quarters? Almost all that I have checked have a very weak obverse strike.I am seeing the hair is hardly sculpted. The whole coin is very poorly struck. Are they being checked by the mint? I am not satisfied at all the way they are being struck.
