Heritage Realizes $13 Million in Dallas Auction; Houston Up Next
Important Liberty double eagles from the Baltimore Collection contributed $3.6 million towards Heritag’e $13 million Signature® Auction held Oct. 23-25 in Dallas. Significant rarities across most U.S. denominations were also featured. Prices realized details can be found in the Permanent Auction Archives. Current prices realized total $13,077,665, with Post Auction Buys continuing. We knew the double eagles from the Baltimore Collection were special when Heritage added them to this auction. The 1854-O $20, graded AU55 PCGS, topped the auction at $603,750. The 1856-O $20, an AU58 NGC, realized $576,150. An 1870-CC $20 certified VF30 by NGC reached $230,000, and a PCGS-certified PR64 1884 $20 brought $207,000. The Baltimore $20s performed amazingly over listed valuations: the 1854-O (AU55) realized 34% over ‘Sheet for an AU58; the 1854-S realized an amazing 174% over ‘Sheet; the 1856-O was 36% over ‘Sheet; and the 1862 was 107% over ‘Sheet.
This was the best showing for a Dallas Signature Auction in nearly three years, illustrating the underlying strength of the coin market in the current economic times. Now, it’s off to Houston, where more outstanding material, including Jack Lee’s personal collection of Lincoln Cents, will be offered.
