Hi Daniel.
In 1980 my then boyfriend dived off the Cape coast, off a reef, and brought to the surface some silver coins from the Dutch ship 'Huis te Cruyenstein', which went down in 1698. They were not cob coins, but normal round coins. I can't say what the dates on the coins were, but I think they were close to the date of the shipwreck. Many such coins were found. For manning his boat, he gave me a coin from the wreck, in very good condition, the details on which I have forgotten.
He subsequently took back the coin to show someone, and I never got it back. He sold it, and pocketed the proceeds of it and the others.
I would like to know how much, approximately, that coin would have been worth.
Thanx.
