Important Viking Treasure Found

The most important Viking treasure find in Britain for 150 years has been unearthed by a father and son while metal detecting in Yorkshire.

The hoard was discovered earlier this year at Harrogate. It contains 617 silver coins and 65 other objects, including a gold arm-ring; all were hidden in a gilt silver bowl and buried in a lead chest.

It was declared as a treasure at a court hearing in Harrogate on Thursday.

The British Museum wants to purchase it for public display. The proceeds will be split between the finders and landowners.
