20th century coins popular
Coin Values - By Mark Ferguson - February 20,

Seventy-one
percent of Coin World subscribers collect State quarter dollars and Morgan
silver dollars, putting those two series at the top of the list of all U.S.
coins collected. However, other 20th century coin series are not far behind in
terms of popularity.

For example, 68 percent of
subscribers collect Franklin half dollars and pre-1999 Washington quarter
dollars; 67 percent collect Jefferson 5-cent coins and Winged Liberty Head
dimes; and 66 percent collect Lincoln cents, Indian Head cents, Walking Liberty
half dollars and Peace dollars.
A few of the other series currently in
production also rank high with collectors, but many collectors like to explore
what came before today's coinage. The popularity of some of the older 20th
century coins can in part be explained by their classic designs, including the
ever-popular Indian Head 5-cent coin, the Standing Liberty quarter dollar and
the Saint-Gaudens gold $20 double eagle.
