Until three years ago, no one even knew that the 1770 Nuevo Reino Pillar Dollar existed. That changed quickly, however, when an amazing stash of 14 coins was found during the bulldozing of a parking lot in Bogota. Heritage will be auctioning off this Discovery Coin at the CSNS convention.

A HEADS UP – New content will be a bit slow getting added to CoinLink between April 16-22nd. The CoinLink offices will be closed as we will be in Costa Rica for some R&R and Research. We appreciate your understanding and patience, but rest assured we will be back in full form upon our return.

The rarity of the 1802 half dime is well known to collectors of United States coins. Only 35 or so pieces are believed known in all grades. Heritage is auctioning off one of the finesest in Cincinnati .

The only serial #1 star note from the Bicentennial $2 series known to exist in private hands will be offered by Heritage Currency Auctions of America in its Central States auction, May 1

The dozens of articles which comprise “From One to Seventy” were written by NGC Research Director David W. Lange and originally ran in The Numismatist, the monthly journal of the American Numismatic Association. Dave has now updated them all for NGC’s website.

Laura Sperber talks about WHEN CHEAP IS NOT CHEAP ENOUGH. Over the past several months Legend has handled millions of dollars worth of coins. ALL were either PCGS or NGC graded. Most were perceived to be solid for the grade (at least that is what they were sold as). Sadly, LESS than 40% of the coins were accurately graded or did not have problems.

Counterfeit Indian Peace Medals by Tom DeLorey. Many U.S. numismatic items have been counterfeited or otherwise imitated over the years. Near the head of this list are the Indian Peace Medals issued by the United States government from the 1790s up to 1890, of which perhaps 90% of the allegedly rare pieces are fakes.
