On Sunday, Sept. 14, the firm of Ira & Larry Goldberg auctioned a nearly-complete collection of U.S. half cents, dating from 1793 to 1857, which was assembled by Ray Rouse. The star of the collection was a 1796 ‘No Pole’ half cent. The price of $345,000 is the all-time, second highest auction price for a half cent.

On October 22, 2008, Stack’s will celebrate its 73rd anniversary by offering a stunning array of U.S. coin rarities for public auction. From colonial coins to double eagles, the 73rd Anniversary sale includes numerous rarities including an extraordinary museum-quality collection of Proof gold coins.

David Lawrence Auctions is offering this week the second known example of the rare Duvall 4-E variety of the Lafayette dollar. This variety was thought to be unique until the discovery of this coin, which has been graded AU58 Cleaned by Dominion Grading Service (DGS).

With little fanfare, an important group of half eagles and eagles were sold at the recent Heritage Long Beach auction. Doug Winter investigates the recent offerings from The Jackson, Tenn Gold Hoard.

DLRC Auctions have announced the current sale of the Block Island Collection – an assembly of 432 certified coins and paper money items from a life-long collector, will close on Thursday.

NCS has certified a newly discovered specimen of the rare Starred Reverse Cent. Among the most famous and popular of early federal coins is the 1794 cent variety featuring a circle of 94 tiny stars around its reverse border.

The next generation of the NGC coin holder, featuring enhanced security features, is scheduled for wide-scale release beginning today.

As CoinLink reported on September 19th, NGC had Certified a Unique Russian 1755 Pattern 20 Rouble. That same coin is going to be sold in London Next month by St James Auctions, and it is expected to bring a World Record Price for a World Coin.
