Greg Reynolds has posted our featured article on the 1796 Large Cent (S84) that just sold for $690,000 in the Goldbergs Long Beach Auction September 14th. This cent was consigned by the family of the late Ted Naftzger, who formed the all-time best collection of large cents. Naftzger’s ‘middle-date’ large cents will be auctioned at the same location in Feb. 2009.
Wayne Sayles writing in his Ancient Coin Collecting Blog takes a look at The Phantom Opera, the sometimes bizarre world of Washington politics, and the State Department’s Cultural Heritage Center, and they ways they ignores FOIA requests with impunity. This all stems from a Freedom Of Information lawsuit against the State Department , which had negotiated an agreement with the government of Cyprus to restrict the importation of ancient Cypriot coins into the United States.
