The US Mint unveiled images of the upcoming 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle based on the design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. The coins will go on sale in early 2009. Plasters of the coin that will be featured at the United States Mint booth on the bourse floor at the World’s Fair of Money.
The Professional Numismatists Guild (PNG) presented a Lifetime Achievement Award to well-known researcher, author and rare coin dealer John “J.D.” Dannreuther during the organization’s annual PNG Day banquet conducted this year in Baltimore, Maryland.
At the Canadian Numismatic Association convention in Ottawa on July 18, C&P Numismatics of Quebec City sold a very rare $5 Bank of Vancover note for a record price.
A hoard of 300 Morgan Dollars was found buried in the backyard of an Amarillo,Texas home. The coins dated from 1878 to 1904 and so far no one knows when the coins were buried or by whom.
The United States Mint announced today that Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, Jr., has appointed Roger W. Burdette to the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC).

Greg Reynolds highlights the Ed Price Collection being put on the block by Heritage this week. A great collection with a facinating array of both very rare varieties and beautiful gem examples of eary Dines and Quarter Eagles.
A previously unrecorded 1943-S Lincoln cent, erroneously struck on a bronze planchet and found in circulation by a teenaged collector over a half century ago, has been acquired by Rare Coin Wholesalers of Dana Point, California.
Doug Winter provides some Pre-ANA thoughts on what to expect in Baltimore this year. Great overview and as always an interesting perspective from one of the industry experts.

According to reports the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation will net as much as $54.9 Million, after expenses, from the divestment of assets sold off from the infamous rare-coin fund managed by Tom Noe.
The Royal Mint releases a new reverse design for the Britannia coins, the seventh since this British coin was introduced in 1987.Britannia has symbolised Britain and her proud island heritage since the time of the Roman Emperor Hadrian (117-138AD). She first appeared on British currency in 1672 on the copper coins of Charles II. Used as a political symbol of the war with the Dutch, her olive branch represented a desire for peace above conflict
Australian Coin forger’s ‘Charlotte Medal’ brings $750,000 at the Noble Numismatics auction. The Charlotte Medal is silver disc engraved by the convict and expert forger Thomas Barrett. Barrett crafted the souvenir medal at the request of the ship’s doctor, John White, when the First Fleet arrived at Botany Bay on January 20, 1788. It is considered by mant to be Australia’s first piece of colonial art.
The United States Mint announced today that Sculptor-Engraver Jim Licaretz has been named the recipient of the 2008 Numismatic Art Award for Excellence in Medallic Sculpture (NAAEMS). The award, conferred by the American Numismatic Association (ANA), will be presented to Mr. Licaretz on August 2, 2008, at the ANA World’s Fair of Money® in Baltimore.
